Thailand : Phuket and the Andaman Sea

Phuket accommodates several national parks and can now take advantage of one of the most ecological policies of the country. Islands and nearby reefs and Ao Phang-Nga offer large possibilities of diving. There, you can eat the best Thai cuisine throughout the islands.

Phuket is conveniently located close to Burma, Malaysia and the Indonesian Archipelago. The cruising ground is extensive, 250 miles of sailing pleasure stretching from Burma (Mergui Archipelago) to Malaysia (Malacca Straits). You will sail among the most beautiful islands in the world, many only accessible by yacht.
Phang Nga Bay: Spectacular limestone cliffs towering out the sea, sea-eagles dropping out of the sky swooping on their prey, calm waters, pristine nature, fantastic kayaking through caves and inland lakes, local fishermen selling freshly caught seafood.
Krabi and Koh Dam: White sandy beaches, secluded anchorages, snokerling, a world renowned rock climbers destination. Fun, low key entertainment onshore.
Koh Phi Phi: Awe-inspiring scenery, great diving, clear waters, secluded bays, white sandy beaches, jungle trails and fantastic game-fishing. Combine this with great shopping, restaurant catering to all tastes, bars and live entertainment.

Diving
The water surrounding the island is filled with a wonderful diversity of marine life, including coral and has a variety of old shipwrecks for diving enthusiasts to discover. Lots of boats equipped with scuba diving equipment. Lots of diving centers around the Islands.

Currency
Thai Bath (Approx 1 USD = 40 THB). US Dollars is used. Major credit cards may be accepted in hotels, restaurants and some shops. There are many places throughout the sailing areas to exchange money from cash, Travellers Cheques and Major Credit Cards.

Climate
Tropical climate with year round sailing. No Cyclones, typhoons or extreme weather fronts. Nice weather all year round.
The best season (from a climatic point of view) is situated between November and April, when it rains the least and when it is not too hot. Weather is pleasant in the South while the rest of the country is oppressed by heat (between April and June) and the North is better from mid-November to February.

Seasons
Nov-April: 8/15 knots of NE winds, virtually without any rain (March & April: the highest temperatures, December & January: the lowest temperatures).
May: Intermonsoon with scattered showers.
June-Sept: 10/18 knots of SW winds with occasional, localized rain.
Oct: Intermonsoon with scattered showers.
Average daily temperature: 25/32°C.
Water temperature: 26/29°C.

Regattas
King's Cup: held annually each December under the Patronage of the King of Thailand. First Regatta was held in 1987 and the number of participating boats has grown each year. Now the top Regatta on the Asia Racing Circuit.
QBE Phang bay Regatta: held annually over Chinese New Year, is Phuket's newest Regatta. Now it is fast gaining a reputation as the most fun Regatta in Asia.
