Mauritius

Mauritius is a small island located in the South-West Indian Ocean, (855 kilometres off the east coast of Madagascar) Africa being the nearest continent with Mombasa (Kenya) some 1800 kilometres away.
The Republic of Mauritius comprises of the main island Mauritius, together with Rodrigues, St. Brandon Island, and Agalega Islands as its dependencies. Mauritius is a volcanic island covering an area of 1,865 km2 (720 sq. miles).
The coastline of 330 kilometres is almost entirely surrounded by one of the largest unbroken coral reefs in the world. The Central Plateau reaches 800 m in altitude with the highest peak, Piton de la Riviere Noire hitting 828 m
The capital of Mauritius is Port-Louis and the official language of the country is English though French and Creole are widely spoken.

Seasons
The rainy season occurs from January to March - especially on the Central Plateau. Cyclones may occur between November and February.
Sea temperatures are generally pleasant throughout the year ranging from 28°C in summer to 23/24°C in winter. Strong anticyclones in winter may occasionally cause the sea temperature to fall by 2 or 3°C.
